What is a lump/bump?

Lumps or bumps on the skin are usually elevated, or raised, areas that can vary in size, shape, texture and colour from the surrounding skin. While many of us worry that a new skin growth could be skin cancer, we want to reassure you that, in most cases, they are not. Nonetheless, even benign and non-cancerous lesions can be bothersome — they might cause pain, bleed, or get caught on things and become a nuisance for you.
