Dr Murphy is our clinical lead and is a specialist dermatology consultant.  Alongside the senior team at Cathedral Hospitals in Belfast, he set up Cathedral Dermatology Clinic which held its first appointments in January 2024.  Dr Murphy sees both self-funding and insured patients for all general dermatological problems including rashes, cosmetic skin concerns and skin lesions.  During regular local anaesthetic procedure lists, Dr Murphy removes benign lesions and skin cancers, biopsies rashes and he also offers anti-wrinkle and hyperhidrosis injectable treatments.

Having graduated from Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast in 2011, Dr Murphy completed postgraduate core medical training and dermatology specialist registrar training in Northern Ireland.  His past experiences include a dermatology consultant post at Belfast City Hospital where he was a recognised trainer for junior doctors and provided general dermatology clinics, a weekly see and treat suspect skin cancer clinic, photo-triage services for cancer referrals and regular minor surgery lists.  Furthermore, Dr Murphy set up a dedicated consultant and nurse-led genital dermatology service at Belfast City Hospital and in 2022-2023, was the chair of the Northern Ireland regional skin cancer multidisciplinary weekly meeting.  He is a member of both the British and Irish Associations of Dermatologists, the British Society for Cutaneous Allergy, the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group, the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease and the British Society of Peno-Scrotal Dermatology.  He sits on the British Association of Dermatologists Therapeutics and Guidelines Committee and is a tutor for Learna and the University of South Wales on their postgraduate dermatology course.

In 2024, he sought to expand his professional repertoire and our services at Cathedral Dermatology Clinic by completing training in Cosmetic Dermatology at the esteemed Harley Academy in London.  In addition to seeing patients with rashes and skin lesions, Dr Murphy offers consultations for concerns including skin ageing, hyperpigmentation and melasma, acne scarring and photodamage (due to excessive sun exposure). 

In his spare time, Dr Murphy enjoys walks with his two dogs, keeping fit, travelling the world with his partner (usually on a cruise) and making time to see friends and family.

Mr Michael McBride completed his medical studies at Queen’s University Belfast. His early surgical training took place in Northern Ireland and subsequent advanced specialist training / Fellowships in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgery across several UK, European and International centres. These included Belfast, Glasgow, Salisbury, Southampton, Newcastle, London, Hull, Paris, Barcelona, Zurich, Helsinki, Florence, Pakistan and India. During this period, he completed the only nationally awarded fellowship (BAAPS / BAPRAS) in Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine. He has been comprehensively trained across the breadth of Plastic Surgery including many advanced, innovative techniques.

Mr McBride is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, fully licensed with the General Medical Council (GMC 7140624) and fully accredited on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. He is a full time Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Belfast and Dublin.

His specialist interests are in aesthetic surgery, lower limb reconstruction, hands, peripheral nerve surgery, facial palsy and head and neck reconstruction.

His academic achievements include the completion of 6 post-graduate degrees with distinction – Surgical Sciences (Royal College Surgeons of Edinburgh), Reconstructive Microsurgery (The European School of Microsurgery, Barcelona), The European Board of Hand Surgery Diploma, Diploma in Orthopaedic Oncology, European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Diploma (EBOPRAS) and European Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (EBCFPRS).

He has published extensively in the peer-reviewed Plastic Surgery literature, in addition to presenting his work both nationally and internationally, receiving prizes for these. He is actively involved in teaching both at undergraduate and postgraduate level and is a member of 9 learned Plastic Surgery societies.

He is dedicated to providing the highest possible standard of care, outcomes and safety to every cosmetic and reconstructive surgery patient under his care.

Mr Kamalarajah – Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with Expertise in Oculoplastic Surgery for Dermatologic Conditions

Mr Kamalarajah is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal, and Orbital disorders, with extensive experience in surgical procedures relevant to dermatology.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Dundee in 1991 and completed specialist training in ophthalmology at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, between 1994 and 2002. He subsequently undertook a one-year fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2002–2003), one of the world’s leading centres for eye and eyelid surgery.

His academic work includes research on post-surgical infections and intraocular device-associated biofilms, for which he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Queen’s University Belfast in 2002.

Mr Kamalarajah held a Consultant Ophthalmologist position with a focus on Oculoplastic Surgery in the Western Trust from 2003 to 2011. He is currently a Consultant at the Belfast Trust, Cathedral Eye Clinic and Cathedral Dermatology, where he continues to provide specialist surgical care.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) and a member of the British Medical Association (BMA) and British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS).

His oculoplastic procedures of relevance to dermatology include:

• Excision and reconstruction of periocular skin cancers
• Eyelid reconstruction following tumour excision or trauma
• Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
• Brow lift procedures for aesthetic and functional rejuvenation
• Socket reconstruction using grafts for complex periocular defects
• Eyelid ptosis repair
• Use of eyelid gold weights for facial nerve palsy
• Management of watery eyes (e.g. DCR, lacrimal stents) where skin incision or reconstruction is required

Mr Nicholas Hodgins FRCS (Plast) is a fully accredited UK Consultant Plastic Surgeon with extensive expertise in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. He is a substantive NHS consultant with a subspecialist interest in reconstructive breast surgery. He is also a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Hodgins completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2009 and commenced his surgical training in 2011. In 2015, he entered the Specialist Higher Surgical Training Programme in Plastic Surgery, gaining comprehensive experience in renowned plastic surgery centres across the UK, including Newcastle Upon Tyne, Durham, Manchester, Middlesbrough, and Belfast.

On completion of his plastic surgery training, he was nationally appointed to an oncoplastic breast surgery fellowship at the prestigious Nightingale Breast Centre in Manchester. There, he received subspecialist training in all aspects of oncological, reconstructive, and aesthetic breast surgery.

Following this period of specialist training, Mr Hodgins was awarded the Niall Kirkpatrick Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). During this dedicated period of subspecialist practice, he honed his skills in a wide range of cosmetic surgeries, including breast, abdominal, facial, and eyelid procedures, under the mentorship of UK leaders in this field.

Mr Hodgins is a member of several professional organisations, including the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), the Association of Breast Surgeons (ABS) and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS).
