Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure designed to rejuvenate your skin, reduce fine lines, and improve its texture and firmness. This treatment uses a specialised device that creates tiny, controlled punctures in the skin’s surface, stimulating the body’s natural healing response. The result is smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin by stimulating and boosting collogen formation in the skin.

At Cathedral Dermatology, we take your microneedling experience a step further. Unlike other practices, we follow every microneedling treatment with mesotherapy – a process where our expert practitioner applies a customised skin booster serum immediately after your treatment. Our serums are packed with essential ingredients like vitamins, amino acids, peptides, coenzymes and mineral salts that penetrate deep into the dermis, further enhancing your results. We will tailor your treatment and mesotherapy to your individual needs which we will discuss beforehand during your consultation. This dual-action approach maximises the benefits of microneedling, ensuring your skin gets the nourishment it needs to look its best.

Benefits

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling stimulates collagen production, which helps smooth rough skin, minimize pores, and even out skin tone. It is a fantastic treatment for overall skin rejuvenation.

By stimulating collagen and elastin, microneedling helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making your skin look more youthful and vibrant.

Following the procedure, the mesotherapy serum penetrates deeply into the skin, delivering active ingredients that can provide additional anti-aging, brightening, or hydrating effects.

Microneedling is effective for reducing the appearance of acne scars, improving skin’s overall smoothness and texture.

When applied to the scalp, microneedling can promote hair growth and help in the treatment of thinning hair.

Microneedling is a versatile treatment suitable for most skin types, helping to rejuvenate your skin with minimal downtime.

Common Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions from microneedling patients just like you.

Microneedling is generally well-tolerated by most patients. A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin prior to the treatment to minimise discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a slight prickling feeling.

The number of sessions depends on your skin goals and the condition being treated. Typically, we recommend a series of at least 3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. However, we will customise your treatment plan based on your skin’s needs.

At the clinic we will provide you will numbing cream on the day or instruct you what and when to apply this if you prefer to put your own on before arriving at the clinic. Your practitioner will cleanse your skin before your treatment, however, if you can try to come with makeup already removed.

During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss your medical history and skin care regimen. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, suffering an active cold sore or have an infection or active inflammation, such as eczema or psoriasis, on your face or the area to be treated, we would not be able to provide treatment but can reschedule you for another date.

We would advise clients who have a tendency for regular cold sores to take preventative oral anti-viral medication for 7 days before and after their microneedling treatments. We can provide a private prescription for this from the clinic if you let us know before you attend or when you book your treatments. Those with darker skin colour types can be at risk of hyperpigmentation after invasive procedures like microneedling, skin peels or laser.

Use of home derma rollers should be avoided for a few weeks before microneedling and we encourage clients to stop their topical retinoids and exfoliants (both beaded and any AHA/BHA acids) a week prior to your scheduled treatment.

Please let us know if you are concerned about infections, complications, pigmentation or just generally whether the treatment is right for you before scheduling. We can arrange for you to see our Consultant Dermatologist Dr Murphy for a consultation and prescription for any applicable pretreatments such as anti-viral tablets or a lightening cream to reduce the chances of such complications. If prescribed, these should be continued right up to and continued after your treatment, as per your doctor’s instructions.

After the treatment, your skin may appear slightly red and feel similar to a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours. Most patients resume normal activities immediately, with no significant downtime.

Yes! Microneedling is highly effective for improving the appearance of superficial acne scars. By stimulating collagen production, it helps break down scar tissue and promotes the regeneration of healthy skin.

Yes, microneedling is a safe procedure when performed by a trained professional. It is minimally invasive, and any risks or side effects are rare and temporary. Our practitioners follow strict hygiene protocols to ensure your safety.

After the procedure, it’s important to protect your skin by using gentle skincare products and sunscreen. Avoid sun exposure for a few days and refrain from using harsh exfoliants or active ingredients like retinoids for a week. If you have been prescribed anti-viral tablets or a lightening cream, these are usually continued after the treatment as per your prescription. We encourage clients to postpone muscle-relaxing toxin injections for 2 weeks then any filler or laser for 4 weeks after microneedling. Your practitioner will discuss and provide you with aftercare information to take home after your treatment. If you are concerned that you have suffered a reaction or experience any problems after your treatment, please let us know at the clinic earlier rather than later so that we can help.

While some improvements can be seen right away, the full results of microneedling become apparent in about 4-6 weeks as collagen production increases. Results are definitely much more visible after a series of treatments rather than a one off session. With mesotherapy’s nourishing serum, your results will be even more enhanced and long-lasting.

Yes! Microneedling can be safely combined with other treatments like chemical peels, laser treatments, or Botox but perhaps some treatment planning and scheduling may be required to space out certain treatments. Our experts will tailor a treatment plan that suits your unique needs.
